ACCESS SPORTS teamed up with the public service program Kid Fit to help fight childhood obesity at the Philadelphia Wellness Expo on October 27. Throughout the day, children from around the Delaware Valley came to the Wachovia Spectrum to partake in karate tournaments, health demonstrations, and exercise tutorials. It was ACCESS SPORTS, however, that provided a little extra to garner the attention of families attending the expo. Aside from providing different sports demonstrations and hundreds of free prizes (tennis racquets, t-shirts, etc), ACCESS SPORTS invited several of its supporters to lend their talents at their exhibit booth. “Mr. Celery” from the Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball team, the Philadelphia Soul’s (arena football) Ambassador and Soulmates, and Brian “Doc” Dougherty one of the best goalies in outdoor lacrosse (Philadelphia Barrage) had photographs taken with kids and fans alike. ACCESS SPORTS also raffled a basketball signed by the entire Villanova men’s team.
Founded in 2002, ACCESS SPORTS is a non-profit organization that provides more than just access to events; it provides an experience. From getting your ticket ripped by an usher to cheering along with fellow fans, ACCESS SPORTS believes in making a difference in the lives of people. Through ACCESS SPORTS’ many athletic clinics and ticket donations, social service agencies around the Delaware Valley are able to offer individuals with social, economical, and physical differences a chance to partake in many of the common joys of society.
Kid Fit is owned by Greater Media Philadelphia, and its mission aims to reduce the growing epidemic of childhood obesity by providing information to parents about ways of teaching their children about nutrition and fitness. www.kidfitonline.com.
