Access Sports Celebrates Four-Year Anniversary
Non-Profit Grew Rapidly Due to Dedication, Unique Cause
Access Sports celebrates its four-year anniversary today, March 20th, 2006. The organization, founded by Alyson Harris through the New Beginnings Incubator Program, has provided more than 22,000 tickets worth $300,000 to its community of beneficiaries.
Beginning with a single Philadelphia Phantoms hockey game and 20 donated tickets; the organization now successfully distributes tickets to a network of over 60 other non-profit organizations, and serves as hosts to three separate sports clinics. They include a soccer clinic taught by members of the Philadelphia Kixx, a lacrosse clinic taught by members of the Philadelphia Barrage and Wings, and a tennis clinic taught by the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Program.
Access Sports director Alyson Harris was excited to be able to celebrate the milestone. "I'm so glad to be able to do this everyday. If we have the opportunity to bring joy into someone's life, then it's worth it. It's important for everyone to have fun."
The organization's cause is not the only aspect of Access Sports that is unique. The organization developed to its current state due to the efforts of a small and dedicated volunteer group led by Ms. Harris. This group has helped the organization grow with limited resources, no full-time staff, and word-of-mouth alone. Now, Access Sports hopes to develop even further by adding more volunteers, expanding it's Board of Directors, and increasing the amount of games it attends and the number of tickets it distributes.
